Baroque Turin Guided tour
February 15th, 18:00 - 20.00
Turin is considered the capital of Baroque art. It was designed by
the architects of the court and rebuilt between 1600 and 1700 to
be a symbol of the greatness of the House of Savoy. At the end of
the social programme on Thursday, a 10-minute walk will take us
from the Campus to the city center, where a guided tour will
introduce us to the architecture of Filippo Juvarra (Palazzo
Madama, Church of St. Filippo Neri) and Guarino Guarini (Church of
San Lorenzo, Chapel of the Holy Shroud, Palazzo Carignano), and
then the Royal palace, the Cathedral, as well as squares, arcades,
fine cafes and courtyards of Baroque Turin. The tour will be
available in english and italian and guided by an art historian
and with individual headphones.
The tour will end in front of the venue of the Conference Dinner,
to conclude a long day with a taste of Piedmontese cuisine.
Participation is free of charge, but registration to this specific event by February 5th is mandatory. Early booking for the social event is strongly advised.
Meeting point: 18:00 Piazza Castello/corner with Via Garibaldi.
